Having to date built over 1,800 websites for Estate and Lettings Agents in the last 20 years it will come as no surprise that we have pretty much seen it all by now and not much surprises us.

We’ve seen sites built by “a mate doing me a favour”. Sites clearly copied from another company. Text literally copied word for word from Foxtons and many more perceived shortcuts to savings that usually end up costing more in the long run.

But the one that we see made far too many times is when an agent instructs “the local guy” to build him a website.

This is often done in the mistaken belief that they are better off saving a few pounds and, because the guy is local, he can just pop round if he needs anything doing. So surely this is doing the right thing for the company.

Of all the bad decisions this is usually the worst. A true-false economy.

Of course, we understand the perception that being able to have a coffee with the local guy feels better, but it is vital that what the local guy doesn’t or can’t do is understood and is added to the decision-making process.
