At the Property Jungle we are often asked what the latest and greatest tools are for property based web sites.

On this page we aim to showcase and explain the key developments and how they can benefit your business.

XML or other data feeds

The biggest and most important development in the very recent past has been the use of XML or other data feeds to export property data and photographs from your desktop software to us in order that we can control the look and feel of the property pages in the site with great accuracy.

By hosting the database which contains the properties within the web site we are able to create 100% customised web pages. There is no need to use iframes or frames. This has two big advantages to you.

  1. Firstly it means that visually the site is improved by not having to have internal scrollbars

  2. Secondly it means that every single property is capable of being indexed by search engines such as Google which has the impact of making your site appear to be much bigger and relevant and therefore your ranking can increase.

Dezrez pioneered this, although most agency application suppliers are now able to provide some sort of feed.

Choosing an agency application provider that can supply your data in a feed is a big step for you in ensuring absolute control of function and presentation in your web site.

Dynamic Google Mapping

Having got control of the data as described in the XML feed section it is possible to do what is called Geocoding to the property data. That means converting the address to grid references. This in turn allows us to pinpoint multiple properties on a Google map and create icons to mark each of their locations.

The problem with creating lists of properties on a web site is that unless your surfer knows the location extremely well most addresses mean nothing to them. In fact the list of properties usually means most to the estate agent or their competitors.

By showing a map with the locations of the properties which should be of interest to the surfer based on price and accommodation you are able to help them much more rapidly determine which ones they mey be more interested in based on location. They can choose properties to view in the knowledge that they are in the school catchment area they are interested in or close enough to the motorway junction for their commuting requirements.

Many of our sites feature this function which has proven to be very popular especially with the ability to have satellite and hybrid views of a property's location with fine zoom controls.

Amenity Data

Several of our more forward thinking clients have come to recognise that describing the property is just scratching the surface. The amenities around it are as important if not more. Local schools, shopping, leisure facilities and more all play a vital part in the deliberations that any prospective purchaser or tenant will make.

We are able to supply comprehensive data sets which you control to provide your home movers with the right local amenity information to help them make informed decisions.

However, it also works terrifically well for the agent as a listing tool. Many clients using this have been able to win listings from new homes developers by having this available on their sites. Many have also been able to secure themselves relocation work, again because of the valuable information they are making available.

Data Layers on Dynamic Maps

This is in fact the obvious combination of the Amenity Data sets with the Dynamic Mapping. Combining the two allows us to create maps showing the locations of properties which may be of interest whilst at the same time on the same map showing the locations of specific types of amenities which are of interest, such as schools and shops.
